Summer??

This past weekend, I had to work, but Monday was our day! Kaylyn was at her Dad's partying it up. We went to the Pierobon's for a BBQ and fireworks. It was hot enough to heat up the pool. We had a great time!

Wow, is this May weather GREAT! Last week, we took the girls out of school to spend a sometime at the cottage. We couldn't have asked for greater weather! We had a bit of rain, but most of the week was sunny and hot!
We headed into Haliburton on Thursday for the day. Bright sunny skies, we had to find a good soda shop for an ice cream.

We got a new "Snuggle" photo of the girls. Kaylyn was practising how to start a fire. Emma thought she should help. It's the only way to make smores you know. With "smarshmellows" as Emma calls them!

Emma learned a bit from Grandma about Farmville or Zoo world on Facebook! Lol! Quick learner! She was done in no time for her!

Emma, the silly nut pictured here is pretending to be an owl. She cooed like a sleeping owl. Funny girl!

Emma got the extra treatment at our stop at McDonald's. The nice lady gave her a wee bit of ice cream in a cup too. She let Emma pack her lunch. Emma thought it was great!

Kay's Update

Kaylyn had a great update at the Urologist appointment. It was a long day, but ended on a happy note. The Doctor did rattle Kaylyn a bit with the talk of surgery, but that is only to keep us aware of options. Kaylyn is not a fan of surgery, not many of us are. Hers comes from the last time. She believes she will be held back a grade again. I tried to explain that High School is different. But, there is no surgery in her future at this point. Her ultra sound proved positive results. She is to stay on course with what we have been doing. I like having a couple of different Doctors on Kaylyn's case. They all offer something different to the table. I guess I should hear them first though, some of their good intentions scare the crap out of Kay! Her blood pressure is under control and she has not had any infections since her surgery in 2002, so I would say we are doing ok! No surgery Kay! Yeah!

Kaylyn survived the weekend even though her camping trip was cut short. The nasty weather wreaked havoc on the tents, so they called it quits Saturday afternoon. She has a bit of a sniffle, but some great stories to tell you about wind, mud and rain!

I hope the weather turns better soon. As Kay says, the weather is a month behind. April is the month of showers.... my gardens are missing me! We got out for a couple of days at the beginning of the month, but I have lots I wish to do!

Next Monday, we are thinking of heading up to the cottage for a couple of days. Will be nice just to get out of town for a couple of days with no plans! Hopefully the last week of May will be nice enough to get the outside ready for summer!

Still have lots of interior decorating going on.... this silly cold put a damper on my painting and mudding! I only need to put the last coat on the trim in the upstairs bathroom. As well, sand and prime the mud room downstairs. Refreshing! If only I could kick this darn cold!

Camping In This Weather?

Well, it seems winter won't give up without a fight! This nasty weather has changed every ones plans this weekend.

Emma adjusted nicely to playing inside with friends, first their house, now ours. Scott has them set up with the Wii and pizza for supper. I, on the other hand have decided to spend the weekend fighting a nasty cold in bed, only to get up to head out to work. The ultimate change of plans is Kaylyn though. She is camping in Dorchester with her Pathfinders unit. Well it seems that with the high winds and cold, wet temperatures the Guide Leaders have decided to pack up. Too many hypodermic kids and broken tents. So after a couple of phone calls, her Dad is picking her up. She is going to spend the weekend with her Dad instead and meet me at my Mother's house Monday. She has a specialist appointment on Tuesday, so Emma and I are going to meet up in Thamesford on Monday for a bit of a visit.

Through the Facebook fan page, I found some really good deals on tickets. I got 2 tickets for my Mom and I for Mother's Day to go see Kiss Me Kate at the Stratford Festival. They are very expensive tickets, but because of the fan page, I got them for $10 each! NICE! Not to say I'm cheap, but it means I can go more often! I can't wait! Kaylyn wants to see Christopher Plummer in The Tempest this year with me too. If you are on Facebook and Love theatre, I would join their fan pages. There are great deals to be had!

Spring Fever

For Emma's class trip, they went to St. John's Outdoor Education Center. There they got to see the new spring lambs. As simple as that sounds, the kids had blast! They learned a lot about sheep. They had a small presentation about how wool is processed all the way to clothes. Short and sweet! Just wish most of my meetings were that simple!

With Spring weather, all the kids on the street have been eager to get outside to play. You know they have been around because almost everyday there is a new chalk drawing on the sidewalk to greet us! Emma has taken a liking to Kay's old scooter. After several attempts, we lowered the handle and she's been scooting ever since! Last year Scott had found a battery operated scooter, so Kaylyn and he started working on it. Too funny watching them scoot up and down the street!

Emma's Spring concert was last week. My parents were down for a visit, so they got to see Emma ham it up on stage! She knew all the words and actions! Here are a couple of photos from the concert.

Mrs. Clegg is Emma's Junior Kindergarden teacher. She is a great teacher! She possesses a magical power over the children that make them listen when she wants. If only she could share a little for us parents for home time! Emma really enjoys going to class!

To Bring You Up To Par

Finally photos from Easter. The girls had a great day! They are funny to watch collecting eggs. As much as Kaylyn knows that it's for Emma, she gets caught up in the moment and loves hunting for more! lol

With the nice weather here, Emma has been back and forth with the neighbors house. Play days have begun. Here is a photo of Emma with Olivia, her favorite friend from 2 doors down.

Emma had her concert last Wednesday. My parents were down for a visit so they were able to watch. I have some video that I am trying to upload. She was so cute! She knew all the words to everything, as well as the actions. A couple times she was too busy looking around at the crowd, but she did fantastic! The teachers came up with a way that every one's child will be in the front row. They had the children, half way through the song, change with the back row. It was great!

Samantha and Justin came down for a visit last weekend to take Kaylyn out to find a pair of shoes for grad. They spent the day together shopping and finally found a nice pair to go well! Kaylyn is getting very excited. Now just to figure out the jewelry and hair!

I signed the girls up for summer camp this past week. They are very excited! Emma is signed up for 1 week in July and 1 week in August. Kaylyn's, I think that I am more excited about hers than she is! I signed her up for a 3 week Counsellor In Training camp in August. They learn lots of camping/counsellor stuff the first 2 weeks, then act and perform like a counsellor for 1 week. This will give her 40 hours of volunteer hours as well as a great start to her resume! Emma's is at the Y, while Kaylyn's is outside rain or shine! She really enjoyed it last year.

Next weekend Kay is heading to Dorchester for a Pahtfinders camping weekend. I think we may head to the cottage for a couple nights the following week. With the nice weather, we think it's time to break away! I want to vacation from painting, mudding, building, moving things around and everything else!

Gotta love spring!

Coming To An End

Everyone says how time flies. We only notice when it's noted by certain achievements. Birthdays, ending of events, upcoming events etc. Well, my achievement is almost at an end. With only 1 more class left, I will have completed my Sign Language course. We have to go into have a 20 minute conversations on everything we have learned. I know I can talk a lot, but signing for 20 minutes?! I have really enjoyed the class and highly recommend it to anyone that has an opportunity or just wants something different. You will be amazed at how often you will use it. It teaches you more than just another language, it teaches you about another culture. I hope to continue with some private lessons so I can carry on to George Brown College in Toronto to be an ASL Interpreter. I need 200 instructed hours before I audition for the course, but I hope to achieve this by January. September would be ideal, but we all know what we are like over the summer. When the sun is shining the last thing you want to do is be trapped inside! Also, I kind of have a full time job!

Both Emma and Kaylyn are continuing their swimming lessons with great strides forwards. Kaylyn passed her last level at the top of her class. Emma is proudly swimming in the deep end! We have moved Emma's lessons to Tuesday so now I can cheer her on. After she finishes her swim out and back, she looks over to Scott and I for a 2 thumbs up and a blowing kiss! Kaylyn was an active part of the schools production of Cinderella. She helped out behind the scenes with lights and curtains. I know most parents are proud when their children are on stage, but I know how much of a help that Kaylyn is. She would be an amazing helper behind the scenes, helping to contribute to the flow of the show! Emma has her singing concert this coming Wednesday. She is a proud peacock! Can't wait!

I have been mentioning that I have been slowly updating our house. Even though it is only 9 years old, a lick of paint won't hurt anything. In a couple of rooms, it has made a great improvement! I have moved onto the "mud" room. It is the last area that is not finished. Scott came downstairs to see me pulling everything out and hanging a couple of sheets of drywall. With a snicker under his breath, asked if I needed help. Needless to say, it was much more effective with him helping! I can't wait till it is all done. I desperately need more storage. Mind you I have rearranged under the stairs and laundry room to accommodate the disheveled shelving units. Didn't realize how organized you can make a small area! Can't wait! Soon, the outside! Hmmm, already planning.... tax return better hurry up!

Spring Has Sprung!

What beautiful weather! Since we have lost our babysitter, I haven't been able to go in to help Scott at his work. So... lately I have decided to start touching up on the house! I have repainted and set up both the girls rooms. I haven't taken photos yet. I haven't hung their posters yet. They look GREAT! Emma has a little girls room and Kaylyn has a young woman's room. I also redid the toy room downstairs. I was a VIBRANT pink, but now is a beautiful brown. Relaid out with new bedding and curtains makes it a BRAND new room. It is now the spare room.

With the sun shining Emma and I started pulling all the furniture out of the doll house and toys out to play with. We have been out for daily walks. For the most part Emma rides in the wagon because we are walking with our neighbor Sabrina for a brisk walk. She thinks that's ok, she can play with her magnet board or DS. We have the trusty old wagon that I grew up with. Emma doesn't complain. She thinks it's great too! She has been so comfortable and exhausted from the fresh air, she even fell asleep once! LOL!

Next to here is the new spare room. What a difference. Sally thinks it GREAT with it's new feather bed on it.

My classes are quickly coming to an end. We only have 3 more classes. We have to make a 10 minute video conversation. The material was given to us, we just had to put the words into sentences we can sign. I have been busy practising with my partner Zsuzsanna. Emma thinks it's great! We usually go over to Zsuzsanna's house where Emma can play the Wii, bounce on the trampoline or play with many of the pets they have. They have a dog, snakes, lizards and guinea pigs. Last time there I was sitting at the table when Emma came up the stairs holding a Bearded Dragon. She was so proud!
